Dr K Raveendran graduated from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He did his orthopedic training at University of Malaya, St. George’s Hospital, London and Walton Hospital, Liverpool. He obtained his MCh Orth from the University of Liverpool. He returned to Malaysia to serve as a lecturer at the University of Malaya and later moved to Ipoh to be in private practice at Fatimah Hospital where he is still practicing.
Dr Raveendran developed an early interest in sports medicine and served as orthopaedic surgeon to the state soccer team. He was a member of the first sports medicine travelling fellowship to United States in 1988. He has also been a Godfather leading a team of sports medicine travelling fellows in 2006 again to the United States.
He has been active in several national and international associations. He was a founder member of the sports medicine section of APOA now known as APKASS. He has served as President of APOSSM.
Dr Raveendran was the Past First Vice President of SICOT, past National Delegate for SICOT, National Delegate for APKASS and National Delegate for APKS (Asia Pacific Knee Society)
He was the President of the International Society for Medical Shockwave Treatment (ISMST) in 2016 and organized the 19th Annual ISMST meeting in Kuching, Malaysia in July 2016. He is a current member of the ISMST Managing Board.
He has been SICOT Examiner for more than ten years and is Senior Editor of the International Journal of Surgery, International Journal of Surgery Case Reports and BMC Sports Science, Medicine, and Rehabilitation. He is a reviewer for many journals including the American Journal of Sports Medicine. In December 2015, he edited a special edition of the International Journal of Surgery on Shockwave treatment.
Dr Raveendran has presented more than 100 papers at national and international meetings and has several publications to his credit.
